Obesity has been defined as the global pandemic of the 21st century, since it is estimated that more than a third of the world’s population is overweight or obese. The causes of this metabolic disorder are very wide, from multiple external or environmental factors (diet, sedentary lifestyle) to internal or genetic factors, among other causes.

In that regard, nutrigenetics can help to identify gene variants predisposing to higher metabolic risk and provide personalised dietary guidelines contributing to prevent the onset of diseases. Under PREVENTOMICS project, a study in genetic scores has been carried out, providing information about the predisposition to obesity and other diet-related affectations. This knowledge can latter be incorporated in dietary and lifestyle strategies to counteract obesity and to improve health along life.
